The most important thing we want you to know at the beginning is that you CAN do this, even if you think you can’t.

Below is some video to get you started and then you might want to check out our recorded meditations HERE.

The Basic Instruction

There are many different techniques from numerous schools of thought. But to start with … keep it simple:

  • Sit comfortably, but in a way that keeps you alert. You need to focus at least a little in the beginning.
  • Breathe.
  • Notice that you are breathing.
  • When you become aware that you are no longer focused on your breathing – just notice that you are distracted.
  • Then return your attention back to the next breath and start again.
  • Repeat.

Is there more to it than this? Well, yes and no. If you just do this for the rest of your life you’ll be in good shape. But there are some other pointers that might be helpful, some other exercises that can help, and some other techniques that are fun and give a bit more balance to this. One next step is to take a look at the Introduction to Meditation course we offer HERE.

When you are beginning, just try this for one, then three, then five, and up to ten minutes.  If you like it you can start trying for longer periods.
