Public Class: 4 Weeks of Intermediate Meditation
January 29, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
From January 29th through February 19th we will be offering free weekly classes in Morristown, New Jersey introducing the practice of meditation.
On the one hand meditation is extremely simple:
STOP. TAKE A BREATH. NOTICE YOU ARE BREATHING. WHEN YOU NOTICE YOU ARE DISTRACTED, START AGAIN.
But … there is a bit more to it as well.
Each week we will meditate, and we will explore some of the different aspects of meditation that can help understand what we are doing, how and why we do it. Over the four weeks we’ll cover several different techniques and look at numerous traditions to help you find the practice that works best for you.
So far we have mostly looked at basic, introductory meditation. In this short four week series we’ll explore the subject a little deeper. There will still be lots of meditation, but we’ll at least ask the question as to what the next levels of meditation might look like.
Although the classes do build on each other, each class will still remain a self-contained entity as well. So you definitely don’t have to attend all the classes, and if you’ve missed the first few – please come along. You’ll pick it up quick enough.
On average we get between 30 and 60 people each week. Some have been meditating for decades, and usually there is at least one person who has never done it. All are welcome, and we’re mostly a friendly group that doesn’t bite.
PRACTICALITIES:
You don’t need to bring anything.
Everyone tends to sit in the church pews which have a cushion, but some people do bring an extra cushion since we usually don’t move around much for 90 minutes.
There are a few parking spaces in the church lot which you are welcome to use if they are available, but it’s usually full. You can also park on the street around the church but it is mostly metered and needs money to cover it until 8pm from when it’s free. Having said all of which it can be difficult to find a spot so please leave plenty of time to find a spot – you can always spend a few extra minutes meditating before class starts (much better than showing up late and interrupting everyone’s meditation).
